DIY folding table

In small-sized apartments, every centimeter of usable space is counting, so many people think about building a folding table that can be cleaned when unnecessary. To make this multifunctional thing on your own is not difficult even for a novice master, if you correctly approach the process. It is important to buy all the necessary materials, prepare the tool and determine the size of the structure. We have prepared material with step-by-step instructions for assembling a folding table.

What is necessary for self-made table

First, consider what tool you might need:

• hacksaw with wide teeth on wood;
• skin, rasp;
• mallet - rubber mallet;
• simple hammer;
• drill with a set of drills of the required diameter;
• chisel;
• screwdriver;
• construction knife;
• plane;
• miter box;
• pliers;
• scissors for metal, if it is intended to use aluminum profiles;
• ruler or tape measure;
• pencil;
• construction level;
• corner;
• punch, if you have to mount the structure on a concrete or brick wall;
• jigsaw - will greatly facilitate the work of sawing boards and bars.

If you plan to paint a table or cover with a stain with varnish, it is advisable to have painting tools at hand - rollers, brushes.

Once the tool is assembled, you can begin to prepare the material:

• plywood sheets with a thickness of 12 mm or more - they are strong, durable, practical, working with this material is much easier when arranging a countertop than with a board or furniture panel;
• bar 5x5 cm;
• boards, if it is not possible to buy plywood;
• furniture corners and fixtures;
• door hinges;
• stain, paint or varnish - depending on which finish is intended.

Options for folding wall tables

There are a lot of options for this design. If a novice master takes up the matter, then from the whole variety it is better to choose the easiest folding table in production, but at the same time it should ideally fit into the interior of the room.

How to make a folding table with emphasis on the hinges

This is one of the simplest designs that can be assembled in 2-4 hours. All parts are cut from a piece of plywood or chipboard. We will need:

• countertop;
• strap;
• a panel that will be attached to the wall;
• supporting stand for a triangular tabletop.

There are several options for manufacturing this model of a folding table:

• the stand can be built from the board, but you need to understand that all the components must ideally fit each other in size;
• use bars as a material for support;
• cut a triangular piece from a solid sheet of plywood.

Instructions for the process are as follows:

1. Mark the plywood sheet. The table top is best done in a semicircular shape, without sharp corners. To do this, an improvised compass is constructed from the bar, with which a semicircle of the desired diameter is formed.
2. Using a jigsaw, cut out the element and finish the edges to perfect smoothness - for this, use a skin or grinder, if any.
3. The next step is to cut out the reference triangle of a certain parameter. If desired, it can be decorated by drilling several round holes of various diameters. For this process, a “crown” nozzle will be required.
4. Now you need to prepare the bar, which will be attached to the wall. On this element, a tabletop and a triangle will subsequently be fixed. The panel should be processed and ennobled.
5. If you plan to mount the tabletop on piano loops, you need to cut off the element of the desired length using a hacksaw for metal.
6. To decorate all prepared elements, previously having processed them with an antiseptic and soil on a tree.
7. Try on all the elements and put marks.
8. Then you need to fasten the wall panel using the dowel nails, be sure to check the horizon level.
9. Attach a triangular element to the wall panel using the butterfly loops.
10. The final step is to mount the countertop onto the piano loop.

The table is ready for use. Depending on the material used, the table in the folded state will protrude from the wall to its thickness.

How to make a rectangular table with a folding mechanism

This model is much more complicated, so before you start assembling, you should make a detailed drawing, with all sizes. When folded, a similar table will protrude from the wall by about 6 cm.

The work is carried out as follows:

1. Cut out all the details according to the drawings.
2. Remove all corners and work until smooth.
3. Try on all the details and decorate all the elements.
4. On the bottom of the countertops often attach the components to do the markup.
5. Now it's time to build the table. Before twisting, each element should be well lubricated with carpentry glue at the joints.
6. Once the structure is ready, it can be fixed to the wall and check the folding mechanism for operability.

IMPORTANT! When assembling this design, you need to be very careful, the elements of the table should be fastened in accordance with the level to get an even horizontal surface.

Making a table with a folding stand

This is a rather overall structure in the unfolded state, therefore, before its installation, all necessary measurements should be made. When folded, the table will protrude from the wall surface by 18 cm. We prepare the elements:

• racks for legs - 4 pcs.;
• jumpers connecting legs - 4 pcs.;
• mounting rail - 1 pc.;
• countertop - 1 pc.;
• butterfly loops;
• supporting corners - 2 pcs.

The assembly execution algorithm is as follows:

1. Prepare 8 elements from the bar - 4 legs and 4 crossbars.
2. You can connect the elements using dowels, which are pre-lubricated with carpentry glue in 2 frames.
3. The resulting frames are interconnected with furniture hinges, they need 2 pcs.
4. Then, a support block is fastened to the structure using loops, which are subsequently secured with nails to the wall plug.
5. As soon as everything is ready, support triangles should be fixed on the wall on 2 sides of the structure, coat the joints with carpentry glue.
6. Cut the countertop from the selected material. Round the corners on one side, treat with sandpaper.
7. Using the hinges, fix the bar to the countertop, which will cover the support mechanism.
8. Install the finished structure on the supporting corners and fix it with self-tapping screws.
9. Decorate the product by pre-treating it with special compounds to increase wear resistance and water resistance.

The table is ready, you can check the mechanism and decorate the product to your liking.
