Why it is impossible to wash and wash the floor on funeral days

People of the Orthodox faith, belonging to the Slavic culture, devote several days a year to honoring the memory of their deceased ancestors, relatives and friends. On memorial dates, it is customary to attend church services where memorial services are held, and cemeteries where a memorial meal is held. A distinctive feature of memorial days is the observance of many prohibitions that apply to the usual daily activities and activities.

Why you can’t wash the floor and wash these days according to the canons of the church

Many people refuse to clean and do laundry, on special days of remembrance of the dead, considering it an insult to the memory of the dead. Grandmothers say "you can’t pour dirty water on the dead." This can be interpreted in such a way that the water remaining after washing the floor or washing poured into the ground in which our deceased relatives lie. This is erased by the machine in the modern world, and you can remove it with a vacuum cleaner. And before: washing - in a basin, mopping - with a bucket, and upon completion it all came out, splashed to the ground.

The opinion of the clergy on this score is absolutely the opposite. The priests, if you ask them whether it is possible to do cleaning on memorial Saturdays and Sundays, are advised to attend church services in the morning and pray, and, after that, without any fears to do household chores.

Important! Cleaning after the death of a person in the house where he lived should be carried out immediately after the removal of the coffin and before the special funeral of the ninth and fortieth days.

What really cannot be done according to the canons of the church is:

  • leave food and alcohol on the graves, as this custom belongs to paganism;
  • drink alcohol in cemeteries and near churches;
  • arrange feasts in the cemeteries with songs and fun.

Important! You can remember deceased parents and loved ones, but you need to do this at home, and without bringing the wake to a drunken holiday.

When are the memorial days of the year

There are several specific dates for the remembrance of departed dates and periods of the year:

  • "Parental Saturday" - Saturday before the advent of Pancake Week;
  • memorial days during Lent, which fall on its 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks;
