Apron for a kitchen from a laminate: a photo

Since ancient times, people used wood to create various interiors, but until recently, wood was not used often in the kitchen, because it is fire hazard and has low resistance to moisture. Everything has changed, after the appearance on the market of a laminate, which in appearance looks like wood of any species, while not having the above disadvantages. Today, laminate flooring is widely used as apron decoration in the kitchen.

Laminate kitchen apron: selection criteria

If we consider such a functional element as an apron for the kitchen, then first of all it is necessary to proceed from the consideration of practicality. Therefore, choosing a laminate, you need to pay attention to such criteria:

  1. Plates can be of various thicknesses - the material is made with a thickness of 5 mm or more. Moreover, a laminate of 7-8 mm is considered thin, more than 14 mm - thick. The most popular are products that have a thickness of 9 mm.
  2. It is advisable to purchase a laminate of at least grade 31.
  3. The material selected for the design of the kitchen apron must be moisture and wear resistant. Not all products have these properties, therefore, during the selection, it is necessary to know about these parameters.

The width of the plates is 85-170 mm. Moreover, the length depends on the appearance of the laminate:

  • 85-170 mm - imitation of parquet;
  • 190-200 mm - imitation of a plank floor;
  • 310 mm - imitation of tiled floor tiles.
  • 410 mm - imitation of antique flooring.

Important! Laminate can be made in the form of a square with sizes of 395 and 625 mm.

When choosing the color scheme of the laminate for an apron, it is necessary to take into account the general style of the interior and the prevailing color in the room, and it is desirable that the color of the apron coincides with the color of the window opening, platbands or doors. It is not recommended to select products to match the tone of the floor covering.

The combination with the interior

Lining the kitchen apron with a laminate is an excellent addition to the interior of the premises of almost any style. However, there are some trends that determine the choice of a particular model:

  1. Imitation of natural wood: taking into account the shade - all styles, from classic to art deco.
  2. Imitation of typesetting parquet: goes well with the classical style, as well as with interiors in the spirit of Baroque, country, Empire, in some cases - art deco.
  3. Products with bright prints: avant-garde, minimalism, art nouveau.
  4. Material in cold colors: this laminate is best used for Gothic styles (it is advisable to choose darker colors), as well as avant-garde. Sometimes this apron can be made for the kitchen renaissance.
  5. Imitation of antique parquet: best suited for country interiors, classic and postmodernism.

Attention! For interiors that are designed in light shades, aprons made of a matte finish of neutral natural colors are best suited. If the room is dark, then it is advisable to choose a glossy laminate of light colors.

Moreover, the size of the picture, if any, must be proportionate to the kitchen. In other words, you should not choose a laminate with a small pattern for a large kitchen.

Laminate kitchen apron benefits

Laminate has many advantages that make this material so popular during apron design:

  1. It is characterized by high resistance to moisture.
  2. Protects the working wall from grease, juices and other liquids.
  3. The apron is easy to install, the laminate can be laid with your own hands.
  4. Resistance to aggressive chemicals.
  5. Even after a certain time, the laminate will be able to maintain its original appearance, despite the constant washing, mechanical stress and ultraviolet irradiation.
  6. Availability of material: each specialized store has a huge range of laminate flooring.
  7. Unlike many materials for decorating an apron in the kitchen, the laminate has a relatively low price, and it will require a small amount, therefore most often one package is enough to create an apron.
  8. A variety of colors and patterns makes it easy to choose the material that best suits the chosen interior of the room.

But there are certain disadvantages:

  1. Despite the “natural” look, the laminate is still an unnatural material.
  2. During installation, all joints must be protected so that water cannot get into the joints.
  3. Quite low resistance to significant temperature differences. By and large, the laminate is not used with intense heating, which happens with the wall that is located behind the stove. However, this flaw is very easy to fix. If you install the slab at a distance of 15 cm from the wall, then there will be nothing with the laminate.

Having studied all the pros and cons, as well as seeing photos of the types of laminate, you can choose the right material. Lining the wall surface with a laminate is a real improvisation. Without which it will not be possible to achieve a good result during the design of an apron in the kitchen.
