Kitchen hood dimensions

In the kitchen, during and after cooking, it is necessary to ensure normal air circulation in order to get rid of by-products - steam, gas and food odors. For this purpose, an electric exhaust device is used, which is usually located above the stove or hob. Its overall dimensions are selected based on the existing requirements of SNIP, as well as from the calculation of the optimal power parameters of the device. How to choose the appropriate dimensions of the hood, so that it also functions as a ventilating device, is described in this article.

Requirements for exhaust systems for the kitchen

The main parameter that you should focus on when choosing a hood is performance that is directly related to power. To purchase equipment that is appropriate for your taste preferences, but too low-power means to throw money away, this decision is fundamentally wrong. When choosing the optimal hood, they are guided by the norms of SNIP, in which the following parameters are indicated:

  • productivity for an electric stove with two rings - 60 m3 / hour;
  • with three burners - 75 m3 / hour;
  • with four burners - 90 m3 / hour;
  • for a gas stove - 100 m3 / hour.

It is worth considering that the dimensions of the hood are not directly proportional to its performance, when choosing it, you should be guided by the passport data given in the attached instructions.

The minimum performance is calculated using the following formula:

P = 12 * S * H

Where P is the capacity in m3 / h, S is the area of the room, H is its height. Coefficient 12 is introduced according to the norms established by SES.

In design and size, the choice is left to the buyer, the main thing is that the device meets the requirements of fire safety.

Selection of hood width

This parameter only affects the appearance of the device and has little to do with its performance. Modern devices are produced in widths from 350 to 1200 mm, with dimensions of 35, 45, from 50 to 120 cm in increments of 10 centimeters. The selection of sizes is usually due to the dimensions of the plate or other device over which it is mounted, and attached to them. In addition, they are not guided by the dimensions of the entire body, but specifically by the exhaust surface.

For the most part, the dimensions of the stoves, and therefore the hoods, depend on the size of the kitchen. So, for kitchens with a square of less than 12 m2, small tiles on two rings, with a working surface of 45 cm, are suitable for more spacious rooms, up to 18 m2, 60 cm cookers are already suitable.

Device depth

This parameter is most important for domed and embedded device options. For domed hoods, the option of equal width and depth of the device is optimal, while for built-in hoods, the depth varies depending on the sliding part. When mounting devices of this type, the dimensions of the wall cabinets and the distance at which they are located are primarily taken into account.

What is the required height for the hood in the kitchen

The height of the device is understood in two ways - the height of the device itself and the height of the installation above the stove or other device.

If we talk about geometric dimensions, then they are repelled by how high is the ventilation to which the device is connected, and how high are the ceilings. If we talk about the height above the stove, the following rule and standard requirements apply:

  • for an electric stove, this size should be at least 65 cm;
  • for a gas stove - 75 cm;
  • for devices with a tilt variable in the horizontal plane - 55 cm.

When installing, the device should be positioned correctly, it should not be at eye level. If there is a touch screen on it, the height is selected so as to ensure its comfortable use.

Optimum dimensions for built-in and suspended hoods for the kitchen

In modern high-rise buildings, the use of 60 cm wide devices is becoming a de facto standard. Today, most of the models, both suspended and built-in, are optimized specifically for this standard. Models of various designs are being developed, including inclined and angular, which allows everyone to choose something to their liking.

Often, for a built-in type hood, you have to choose a furniture set of non-standard sizes, so there are quite frequent cases when a kitchen has to be made to order. This is somewhat more expensive than purchasing standard-sized furniture, but from the point of view of design it is much more competent.

When choosing a device that plays the role of purifying air and ventilating devices, you should evaluate its performance by choosing a more powerful hood. The text indicated earlier, dimensions are not always an indicator of performance. Therefore, it is necessary to select a device based on both its performance and how it fits into an existing interior.
